All the news fit for standard out
The Project
A one week project to write a newspaper / zine about what’s going on at The Recurse Center. The small version is a single sheet, single sided page that’s at the sign-in stations Friday morning (and online as PDF); the medium version is a single sheet front and and back; the dream-big version is a little zine style folded set of pages.
We intentionally want to produce something tangible that can be enjoyed over a cup of coffee and doodled on. As computer folk we spend a lot of time bringing the real world into the machine- let’s bring the machine into the real world!
I, Nicole, will be your editor for the week (and depending on involvement possibly write all of it)!
How can I be involved
I would LOVE for you to be involved. Depending on your time you might choose to be involved by:
- Be a contributor: Write an opinion piece, create art, work with a section editor. I’d love to publish your work!
- Be a section editor: Want to take over a section and figure it all out? Pick one and find contributors
- Be a reporter: Find out about an event and write up a small (500 words) blurb about what happened and what was going on
- Be an advertiser: Make an advertisement. This should be non-commercial or just-for-fun
Why should I be involved
The best reason is that this is silly fun and we’ll be making something that your friends at RC will get to enjoy.
It’s a chance to talk to fellow RC’ers. This is up to your comfort and could be a chance to meet new people whether that’s on Zullip or in person.
From a professional standpoint this is a chance build foundational skills and maybe to try a different role. Writing and communication are foundational skills and this is a chance to flex those muscles and see how it feels. You’ll be in a group of people who want you to succeed and have your back with editing, brainstorming, and kindness. You can do this! You might also try taking a leadership role and helping out as a section editor. This is a safe chance to try something new or show off skills you’ve got.
